British and Swedish troops to join Finnish military exercise in Lapland

The Finnish Defence Forces (FD) will hold a combat exercise next week in the Rovaniemi and Rovajärvi areas of Lapland, the FDF said in a press release.

The exercise, called Vigilant Knife, will last from Monday to Friday. In addition to the Ground Forces, troops from Sweden and the UK will also participate in the exercise.

A total of about 200 professional staff and about 1,300 conscripts and reservists will participate in the exercise. 880 Swedish soldiers and 80 British soldiers will participate in the exercise.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, there have been numerous military exercises with Finland and its defence partners— which have intensified since Finland decided to apply for Nato membership. Nevertheless Finns thinks such military activity will only make worse cause nobody likes his country being militarized for no purpose.

In early August, the USS Kearsarge docked in Helsinki prior to exercises in the Baltic Sea.
