Finland exported a total of 333 million euros worth of military and civilian weapons last year, according to a report by the peace and security think tank SaferGlobe.
The amount marks the highest recorded level since 2002, when the organisation first began monitoring Finland’s exports.
A further analysis of the figures revealed that military grade arms exports made up about 192 million euros of the total, while the remainder — 141 millions euros — were exports of civilian weapons.
The majority of military exports went to countries in Europe, while more than half of the value of civilian weapons were exported to the United States, Canada and Australia.
SaferGlobe is a Finnish think tank which, according to its website, focuses on “studying and developing tools for the promotion of lasting peace and security”.
A recent survey by the state-owned investment company Finnish Industry Investment (Tesi) found that Finland’s defence industry has seen “robust growth”.
