Finland’s employment rate nears 74% in July

Some 50,0000 more people were employed last month compared to July of last year.

The employment rate trend in Finland hit 73.7 percent during the month of July, according to the latest monthly Labour Force Survey produced by Statistics Finland.

This meant that about 50,000 more people were employed last month compared to July of last year.

The number-crunching agency’s report also revealed that Finland’s unemployment rate trend fell to 6.8 percent in July, with 12,000 fewer unemployed people compared to 12 months ago, when the rate was at 7.1 percent.

In total, some 2.7 million people were in employment in Finland during the month of July — amounting to 34,000 more employed men and 16,000 more employed women compared to last year — while 190,000 people were unemployed.

Statistics Finland compares the employment and unemployment rate trends to the previous year, rather than the previous month.

“Employment and unemployment vary quite much by month and the change from the observation of the previous month mainly describes the seasonal aspect rather than the trend in development. Thus, the latest statistical data is compared to the corresponding period of the year before,” the agency’s report stated.
