Finnish climate minister in Ukraine to discuss war’s environmental impact

Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment, Kai Mykkänen (NCP), was on a visit to Kyiv, Ukraine on Friday.

Mykkänen went to the war-torn country to discuss the environmental damage that the war has caused, according to a ministry press release issued on Friday afternoon.

Other anticipated discussion topics include Ukraine’s energy situation as well as Finland’s support for Ukraine’s reconstruction and aid to the country’s energy sector, the release said.

“Besides the enormous human suffering, Russia’s war of aggression has caused immense environmental damages. Ukraine and its people will suffer from their consequences far into the future,” the ministry’s press release stated.

Towards the end of last year, Finland announced that it was sending its twenty-first military aid package to Ukraine.

Finland has provided around 1.6 billion euros of military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country more than two years ago.
