Norwegian Waste to Sweden Going from Roads to Rail

Norwegian waste that is to be burned in Kiruna, Sweden has been transported with vans for more than 20 years. Now, the waste will be transported via the railway line from Narvik during the final years before LKAB’s waste heat is to replace waste burning as heat source, according to SVT.

The first train with waste from Narvik arrived in Kiruna on Tuesday. This is, above all, considered a victory for the environment and is also a more reliable means of transportation.

“The ambition is for this to become a long-term solution. We will investigate how to create efficiency so that this becomes economically viable. We are already convinced that it is the environmentally bestsolution”, says Vice Director Jan Fjordell at the technical staff in Kiruna.
