Opposition conservatives lead in the first round of parliament elections

Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats are leading the Lithuanian parliament elections after the first round that took place on Sunday, 11th of October. The party in the multi-member constituency got 24.80 per cent and 23 seats.

The ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union is the second with 17.50 per cent and 16 seats, followed by Labour Party with 9.47 per cent and 9 seats. The fourth place is taken by Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (9.26 per cent, 8 seats). Freedom Party is the fifth and got 9.02 per cent and 8 seats.

Liberals Movement of the Republic of Lithuania Party also got more than 5 per cent (6.78 per cent, 6 seats). All other parties did not pass the 5 per cent threshold to enter the new Lithuanian parliament. A total of 17 political parties nominated their candidate list in the multi-member constituency.
