Pressure mounting on Swedish government to issue weapons amnesty

Several parties are pressuring the Swedish government to issue a new time-limited weapons amnesty during 2024 in order to reduce the amount of illegal guns in society. ”I don’t think that this is a catch-all solution that will solve everything, but is one of many measures”, the Green Party justice spokesperson Rasmus Ling tells Swedish Radio News. There have been four separate time-limited weapon amnesties in Sweden. During a weapons amnesty, a person who has purchased an illegal firearm can return it to the police anonymously and without repercussions.
