Finnish Industrial Union issues sixth strike warning for December

The Industrial Union issued another strike warning on Monday morning as it seeks a 10 percent pay rise for its members over the next two years.

The union is negotiating a new collective agreement with the employers’ organisation, the Technology Industry Employers of Finland, as the current agreement is set to expire on 30 November.

Unions affiliated with the blue-collar SAK confederation have announced their intention to pursue a 10 percent increase in wages for their members, a demand which employers’ representatives have labelled “shockingly high”.

The latest strike warning relates to site-specific work stoppages scheduled for Thursday 12 December, affecting 11,000 employees at 120 locations around Finland.

It is the sixth — and largest — such warning issued by the Industrial Union over the past week.

The six days of industrial action are set to take place on 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 December at various locations across the country.

A total of about 33,000 workers at some 440 locations will walk off their jobs across the six days, if the strikes go ahead.

More detailed information on the locations and companies affected by each of the strike warnings is available on the Industrial Union’s website.
