Active cooperation among the Baltic states will help more successfully to overcome the consequences from the Covid-19 pandemic, said Latvian parliament speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) during the meeting of the Baltic parliament speakers in Riga on Thursday.
The Saeima press service reported that the Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian parliament speakers agreed that the summer time should be used to achieve broader vaccination against Covid-19 that would allow to maintain economic activity in fall and children return to schools.
At the same time, there are concerns about dropping vaccination pace in all three countries, and governments should think about new and untraditional ways to address people, informing them about necessity of vaccination.
During the meeting with Estonian parliament speaker Juri Ratas and Lithuanian parliament speaker Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, Murniece voiced joy about the possibility to meet in person to discuss the current issues and most important issues on the agendas of the parliaments.
Murniece underscored the necessity to continue work on economic and social stability in the region, on infrastructure projects, including Rail Baltica, and synchronization of the Baltic power grid.
