Finnish troops will conduct local defence drills across the country at the beginning of next month, the Army announced in a press release on Thursday.
The regularly held exercises will be held from 1-8 March, and will include the participation of conscripts, reservists, Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) personnel as well as a significant number of representatives from other agencies, according to the release.
The drills are meant to develop local defence and battle preparedness as well as improve the ability of public agencies to cooperate in quickly changing situations across the country.
The Army said troops and equipment will be visible in the cities and towns where the exercises are being held.
Around 650 reservists will practise duties that they would need to carry out in exceptional circumstances, the release stated.
The drills will be carried out in: South Karelia (about 600 troops and 80 vehicles), Southwest Finland (about 300 troops and 60 vehicles), Central Finland (about 300 troops and 40 vehicles), as well as the Helsinki region and Eastern Uusimaa (about 1,000 troops and 200 vehicles).
