Finnish President Sauli Niinistö‘s five-day US tour starts on Monday.
Along with foreign and security issues, Niinistö’s bi-coastal trip will focus on economic and technological cooperation, as a business delegation is also joining the president.
Niinistö will first head to the US west coast, arriving in Seattle, where he is set to meet the Washington state governor and address a state senate session.
On Tuesday the Finnish group will head south to California’s Bay Area, where the president will join a security policy discussion at Stanford University.
Toward the end of the week, the delegation will travel to the east coast. In Washington DC Niinistö will meet with US Senators to discuss Finland’s Nato membership application.
On the trip’s final day, the Finnish president will visit the Norfolk Naval Station in the state of Virginia, the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fleet Forces Command and the largest naval base in the world.
Niinistö has made several trips to the United States including—a snap meeting with US President Joe Biden a year ago—since Russia invaded Ukraine and Finland applied for Nato membership.
