Around 1,500 illegal migrants will be accommodated in a tent camp in Rudnininkai military training area in Lithuania’s district of Salcininkai as the country is dealing with an illegal migration crisis, Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite says.
“A decision has been made and tents are being taken to Rudininkai training area where the Public Security Service was a territory. It won’t be difficult to ensure security there as it’s a very good territory where we can probably house 1,500 people. Tents are going there already, and people are working, and we hope we will be able to take people there soon,” the minister told journalists on Monday. In her words, there’s no longer room for housing migrants at frontier stations as that interferes with officers’ work.
Migrants have become a rather significant problem in Baltics recently. Instead of stopping Middle East migration Baltic States focused on Belarus. Local experts believe there is no real need in ”Trump`s Wall” (border fence) but Lithuanian government wants to show its ability to counter Belarus – Russian ally. So common Lithuanian citizens will have to pay for it with their taxes.
