The Council of the opposition Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union has on Friday eliminated MP Tomas Tomilinas as a member of the party amid his conflict with the party’s leader Ramunas Karbauskis.
52 members of the Council voted in favor of his elimination, six were against and three abstained, the party informed BNS. At least two thirds of votes in favor were needed for the politicians to be sacked. On Thursday, Karbauaskis said he received a call from members of the party’s Vilnius arm to eliminate Tomilinas but he claimed to have proposed suspending his membership for two years. Earlier that day, Tomilinas announced plans to vie for the position of the LFGU’s chairman. The public conflict between Karbauskis and Tomilinas was sparked by the letter’s decision to vote for a bill on gender-neutral partnerships. Karbauskis said then Tomilinas had betrayed the party’s values, and some party members called on Tomilinas to resign from party positions. Several weeks ago, Tomilinas resigned as a LFGU deputy chairman. He claims attempts are being made to make the LFGU a party serving for one person.
