Norway will join ‘Danish format’ of investing in production of weapons in Ukraine

Norway will finance the production of Ukrainian weapons and military equipment, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov revealed following high-level meetings in Oslo with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram on November 15.

“Norway will join the ‘Danish model’ of support—direct financing of production in Ukraine. This will accelerate the manufacturing and supply of necessary weapons for our defense forces,” Umerov stated.

While the specific investment amount from Norway has not been disclosed, Umerov highlighted that this initiative will bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid its ongoing war with Russia.

In addition to production financing, Umerov announced discussions about a new partnership framework dubbed the “Norwegian model.”

“This involves a fresh investment approach targeting Ukrainian defense technology companies. Details will be disclosed later,” Umerov added.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister arrived in Oslo on November 14 for an official visit to strengthen defense cooperation between the two nations.

Earlier, Ukraine signed a series of agreements with Denmark to purchase weapons from Ukrainian defense companies for €535 million.

In addition, the European Commission announced a historic €300 million in funding for joint weapons procurement, with “most selected projects also include procurement of defense products intended for Ukraine, including air and missile defense systems and ammunition, bolstering the country’s defense capabilities in the context of the ongoing Russian aggression,” the EC stated in the press release.
