Norwegian elections of 2021: The voting card becomes digital

This year’s voting card, which is normally sent by post, has gone digital. From August 10, all Norwegians will have access to the document via their digital mailbox.

Just before the start of advance voting, the digital cards will be sent out for the first time, the Norwegian Electoral Directorate reports.

The aim is to simplify the process for young voters, who often live at other, temporary addresses than the one registered in the National Register.

The directorate tested the scheme in several municipalities during the local elections in 2019, and the feedback was positive.

People who don’t want to vote via electronic mail or who have not updated or confirmed contact information in the register in the last 18 months will still be sent the paper version of the ballot card.
